Services for children and adults with ASD

Autism assessment, therapy and counselling

We provide a range of services for children, young people, and adults who are autistic or who are looking into diagnosis. We endeavour to work from a neurodiversity affirming stance, which recognises the different strengths and perspectives of autistic people. Our services include:

  • Assessment of children with ASD to help identify learning needs and areas of intervention.
  • Comprehensive diagnosis of children, young people, and adults using tests including the ADI-R, and ADOS-2, and Vineland.
  • Support with the management of behavioural problems in children and young people on the spectrum.
  • Individual therapy or counselling for young people and adults with ASD level 1.
  • Individual and small group intervention aimed at enhancing social confidence and improving emotional regulation skills, including the Westmead Feelings Programme.
Psychology services and Autism assessment

Adult Diagnosis, Autism assessment

For ASD level 1, formerly referred to as Asperger’s or High Functioning Autism, this process usually involves three interviews (including a phone or in-person interview with a parent, partner, or someone who knows the person) as well as completion of a variety of questionnaires.
For adults with more significant difficulties or intellectual disabilities we may do other testings such as the ADOS-2 or Adaptive Behaviour.

Diagnosis of children and young people

We carry out comprehensive autism assessment using the ADOS-2, ADI-R, and Vineland, as well as other tests as needed. The ADOS-2 accurately assesses and diagnoses autism spectrum disorders across age, developmental level, and language skills.

Apex Psychology is a registered provider under the NDIS. If you would like to use your funding to access our services, we will need copies of all your documentation and you will need to fill in some additional paperwork at the initial assessment. Please let us know at the time of making your appointment if you would like to use your funding so that we can make this process as smooth as possible. There are a few ways to use your funding:

  • If you are self-managed, then the psychologist will charge their standard fee and issue you with a receipt to claim back from the NDIA.
  • If you are NDIA-managed or plan-managed, we charge using the Capacity Building (CB) Improved Daily Living category:
